Art Crawl!!!

I have a Kindle Fire and I like having the light and being able to watch Netflix on it but it is heavy - so a Paperwhite would be better.

About the first thing I did went I got it was to walk from a well-lit room into a pitch black room and watch the screen look exactly the same.

The Fire is useful for surfing and media, but I'm doing most of my reading on the Paperwhite.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Definitely the Paperwhite. I have an old keyboard Kindle, and I love it, but I definitely envy the contrast on the Paperwhite.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

So I bought an extra 3TB USB drive to extend my 2TB NAS. Only the NAS is currently RAID1 mirrored. So since the USB drive is a new volume, I can't just say, hey, extend onto here. I'm thinking maybe I should go to RAID5?

But then I'd need to store the current backup somewhere while I reconfigured. Which I will probably have to do anyway. In which case I'm thinking about moving off Memeo to some other, more robust, backup software. But then I'd have to figure out how to migrate the old backups.

Hm.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

So my next question: Where has the best price on the Paperwhite? Is it Amazon? (Full disclosure: I'm a Prime member, so I don't pay shipping.)

You'll lose 1TB, but I can't think of another option if you want redundancy.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Jilli,

you might want to look at prices on Amazon and Target and Best Buy for comparison. I bet Amazon has the best price though.

"Oh no! Has falling sky liquid once again caused you the sadness?" -Starfire

If you're looking to save a little money, you can always get the version that has the ads. If you absolutely hate them, you can pay $20 at any time and Amazon will remove the ads (pretty much instantly).

Your other decision is between 3G (more expensive) or Wi-fi. I had 3G on my last Kindle and rarely used it. So I went with Wi-fi this time and don't regret it.

I adore my Paperwhite!

That's what I thought. I dunno. I'm eating up space pretty quick here on my main drive. Maybe redundancy is less important? Maybe I should do a regular optical drive backup, store the dvds offsite and call that my redundant backup?
