Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I think my biggest "Whoa!" was installing OS/2. I went from Windows 3.1 to that, I think? Do those dates work? Maybe it was an earlier version of Windows, but OS/2 was the fucking coolest-ass shit. Magic.

In fact, my current Android feels are a bit like the my OS/2 feels from two decades ago. I do hope this turns out much better.

Coding and Sleeping

I remember the greatest thing about Windows 95 was thinking: OMG! I don't have to fuck with memory handles anymore.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

A group I work with has an SSL certificate from GoDaddy that's expiring next month. A renewed 2-year certificate from them would cost $126.

Anyone have any recommendations on getting a similarly (or cheaper) priced cert from a company whose CEO... I dunno... doesn't shoot elephants?

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

I remember moving from CPM.

After a decade of paste-up, my best computer moment was drawing a border. The prospect of not having border tape stuck to my arms, not having my right fingernail constantly sliced from cutting mitered corners and not having to deal with globs of Rapidograph ink was orgasmic.

What are the possible culprits if SHIFT+E intermittently doesn't work on my Windows 7 work machine? e works fine, as does CAP LOCK + E, but not just plain shifting. All other letters of the alphabet seem good shifted, and it's more than one application (Opera and Word so far).

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Can you swap in a different keyboard and see if you still have the problem?

I'd have to disturb someone at work--it seems way too small an issue to call support on, but it is annoying, especially when you're not watching the screen as you type and find out afterwards.

But I'll see if one's around.

I'd say it's probably a bad keyboard. If not, I'd be really curious myself what the problem was.

Years ago I had a keyboard where one of the shift keys sometimes didn't work, but the other always did. Are both shift keys not working for you?

I suppose "use the other shift key" might not be the best work-around.

You know--I have absolutely no clue. That will be tomorrow's first test. Holding the shift key down with the right hand. I just went with my hand's reflexes, and that's the only way to capitalise the letter. Things are so different with a brain in the picture.... But why would a keyboard blitz one letter? I mean, I guess they are that complicated inside it's not remotely like a set of mechanical equivalences, shift + any key having the same issues.

God, computers! What is your problem!

I think you just picked our next thread title.
