This is sorta technology....I got a new Fitbit Zip! It's super cute, and unlike my old one, will sync to my phone via bluetooth, so I don't have to be near my home computer (with doohickey plugged in) for it to sync, which will be good when travelling.

Jilli, I know you were considering one--if you want to have my old one, you're welcome to it.

omnis, pursue. That's an order from a shy woman who can use M-16. - Shir

I was just introduced to the fitbit. It looks cool & interesting, but I wonder if it will work with my non-standard walking style. If Jilli doesn't want it, I'd be interested.

Compassionately intolerant

So. I upgaded my mini mac's memory for 2 to 8GB this morning and have succeeded in borking the sound. A forum query suggests that this is a common outcome. Wish I'd known that from the outset.

Sigh.

I've made an appointment with the Genius Bar and am not looking forward to the disdain.

Unfortunately the way Jaguar works is a not all that cheap list price and then you get a better price with discount codes. Unfortunately they are between discount codes right now. So anyone decent for low end hosting besides jaguar and fatcow. It seems like the low end of hosting has become more expensive.

Anyone tried hostgator or ipage or others of that sort? hostgator, ipage, justhost, web hosting hub.

A friend of mine uses them to host her blog, hasn't had any complaints about them she's shared with me.

I'm in the process of moving all my domains from an iStrata dedicated server to a HostGator vps. I can let you know how it goes in a few weeks.

I'm in the midst of a billing dispute with FatCow right now. They say I still owe them, PayPal says I've paid them and they have verified payment. Too early to say if they are handling it well or poorly yet.

They got back to me quick and took care of it without a fuss. An "Ooops, our bad" would have nice, but I can't complain.

My dispute is that they raised their rate on renewal to a cost equal to that of dreamhost. Fatcow is not in the same service class and they ought to know it. I switched to a less expensive host. If I could not have found one I would have switched to dreamhost. No way I'll pay dreamhost prices for fatcow quality.

I haven't had any trouble with them, but then my needs aren't all that demanding. It's probably worth a look to save money when renewal comes around again, but I've got multiple domains and bunches of e-mail to screw with to change (moving the domains is easy enough, but the databases and having people reconfiguring IMAP and POP addresses is a pain). In any event, I might have to bail at some point if they can't host servlets when/if it becomes an issue.
