yes, but by the time the update comes out in 3 months, I think the google maps app would have changed by then. they have done it for other apps.

I had been using mapquest's turn by turn, and they work well some areas of the country, but for some reason the directions completely break down on the West Coast. I was going to buy the tomtom app (which is a whole lot of $$), but I think I can wait for this upgrade.

For a free driving turn by turn, check out Waze. Not as good GPS resolution, but a good social app, as in, input from drivers tells you traffic conditions better/faster than paid services.

you should get one. this is an update for ios6 which probably won't be out until September or October and you can choose not to upgrade if google hasn't updated its app by then.

Yeah, see I would totally use turn by turn directions all the time when traveling. But I also use walking and transit directions all the time too!

The walking and transit info is necessary to me, too! I am pissed that they're deleting it.

I'd be surprised if Google Maps wasn't still available in the Apps Store, just not loaded by default.

Huh. I just found out that Google was not charging Apple for the use of Google Maps, but back in March they started charging large organizations (like Apple) for its use.

I wonder if they would charge Apple if Google Maps was installed from the App Store. If so, maybe Apple would remove the app from the App Store.
