We won’t stop until everyone is gay.

Thanks, Tom. I have a Macbook Air. Unless I'm seriously missing something, there isn't a spot to plug in an Ethernet cable.

Hey. New board.

I believe you are correct. You have to purchase a dongle from apple that plugs into USB and let's you plug in ethernet to hard wire an Air.

Ah. So I can't use a regular USB cord? What is the USB port thingy on my modem for, then? To plug into a router?

Hey. New board.

That is a good question. I don't know. Cable modem?

All is well that ends in pizza.

The USB port on a cable or DSL modem can be used for Internet. I've seen it done several times, but have not used it myself.

Yes, it's a cable modem.

So in theory, I could connect from my Air to the modem via USB? It's certainly an option in Network Preferences.

Hey. New board.

I'm going to stop pretending like I know what I'm talking about - I've never done it.

I would google for the modem manual, myself.

...duh. I think I have the modem manual. RTFM, smonster.

Okay, I RTFM and it's not helping. It only has troubleshooting for PC, not Macs. I think I'm going to contact my cable company. Thanks for the help, y'all.

Coding and Sleeping

You probably need to contact them anyways to get to the bottom of the problem. I doubt that your router is going to be problem if a wired link doesn't get you the speed you expect.
