Apple really does treat you right. Unless you are a Chinese worker. [Er dig is at Apple not you. It turns out Chinese labor is about 2% of total costs. So if enforced decent treatment for workers employed by contractors and that doubled the cost for Chinese labor, the extra cost would be lost in exchange rate fluctuations. ]

This is an interesting iPhone case looking for kickstarter funds. Can't be your only charger, but it would sure be handy in a pinch.
So, I'm still having transcoding issues. Here are two files--the first one streams fine to the TV using PS Server 1.50.1, the second one, no go. But I can't work out which of those stats between them is meaningful, and how I'm supposed to be able to tell on downloading, or what I need to know if I'm going to convert them myself.
Anyone know?
The only difference I see is that the audio is stream 0 in the one that doesn't work. Do you have any other ones with the audio in stream 0 that do stream?
I'm pretty sure the last pair I checked had the audio streams in the same position, but...jesus. What a thing to break on/check for/etc. I'll start poking through.
I'm also looking at app settings (nothing stands out, but I truly don't understand this stuff), so I moved on to the logs, and the one referring to the failed file is:
Starting "/Applications/PS3 Media Server.app/Contents/Resources/Java/osx/ffmpeg" -ss 1 -i "/Volumes/Ghostfacers/Video/Zoe's downloads/House.of.Lies.S01E03.720p.HDTV.x264-AVS.mkv" -an -an -s 320x180 -vframes 1 -f image2 pipe:
But I don't see anything indicating an error of any sort. And I guess I need to have a look at the meaning of the parameters for ffmpeg to see if they have any deeper meaning. It uses the same parameters for every file in the folder.
I downloaded, and it works fine in VLC for me. I remuxed using subler and got something that was decent, but not great.
It plays fine in VLC for me too. Something's breaking in the transcoding when it's being streamed through PS3 Media Server, using UPnP to my Samsung TV. It streams the first one just fine, but not the second. I've never had any problem playing any of them on either of my computers.
I'll see if a remuxed version streams successfully, though. Thanks.
eta: It does stream everything else in this folder, which makes it the most successful server so far. But this is on my Mac. I hope it's as good when I move it to Windows or Linux (crosses fingers).
So! I need to rent a dedicated server. Recommendations? Cautionary tales?
