Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
So now I need some iPhone apps. Of course I already have the apps that I got for my iPod Touch, but now I can get apps that need GPS and/or a constant connection to the internets. Any ideas?
For starters, I need a QR code reader. And maybe one of those "remember where I parked in the big-ass parking lot" apps. Any recommendations?
ION, the Personal Hotspot works great. The other day I was humming "I'm a walking hotspot. I'm a walking hotspot."
eta: Ooh. An augmented reality app would be cool!
At least you didn't have to be homeless to get the privilege.

Heh. Yeah, I was considering making that joke.
RedLaser is pretty much the gold standard for scanning QR and UPC codes. It even generates QR codes.
I've picked up a couple of "where did I leave my car" apps but then I forget to use them so I can't tell you how well they work.
My favorite GPS using app is PeakFinder, but not everyone shares my obsession with knowing the name of any mountain I can see.

Yeah, that could be a problem.
Now I'm wondering if there's a "where did I leave my car" app that can detect when my car ends its Bluetooth connection to my iPhone (i.e. when I turn it off) and records where I am at that time.
Wow. Redlaser's bar-code reader is awesome. Love how it finds location and price options for what I've scanned. Thanks, -t.
(I had forgotten such functionality existed. I was mostly thinking a QR code reader could let me scan those QR codes on train ads.)
What does a "where did I leave my car" app offer over and above taking a photo of the nearest identifying marker? Especially when you're somewhere you can't get a cell or GPS lock?
I like RedLaser, but for some reason it does not work all the time for me. I also like i-nigma for QR codes.
I can't help you with aug reality apps. I like Parkbud to help monitor parking meters.

Well, if you're in a
giant
parking lot? Or on some side-street blocks away from your destination? Plus, maybe less thinking is involved?
I just type the info into notepad. A26, or whatever.
