"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

yes. buying a phone in other countries tends to be simpler. it is bullshit (for the most part) in the USA.

I heard Canadian smart phone users also complaining, so there is that.

Those are nice printers, and I would like to have a better one one day, but my budget is under $50.

I know you get what you pay for, but I just need basic stuff, and for it to work a year or so.

Well, I guess it's misery's company?

I haven't had a contract for at least five years now. Just gimme a phone, I already got a SIM card. We'll be good.

Serves me right, though, since all I want to do is return in it two weeks. But that's because the place that will eventually ship to me is about $100 less than all the others.

Ironically, it seems easier to convince the TMobile store to just gimme a phone.

ita !, you should be able to purchase a Go phone and just put your sim card in it. Just never use the sim card that comes with the Go phone. And make sure the Go phone works on your network. That is how we got CJ a new phone recently.

So you would just get this with one of the $0.00/month plans? I wonder how to find out if they have the key functionality I want--wireless tethering. I'm so afraid I'm not going to be able to swing that on my new phone.

This might sound weird, in the age of social media and lots of sharing and journalling your bowel movements, I want a diary were I say afterwards "12:45 Hair cut by Rob--excellent!" Thing for my ailing memory, but LJ? Even private entries? Too much trouble. I'd rather something local and then cloud backed up.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I tend to use Evernote for stuff like that.

I use Evernote for bigger notes than that--ongoing stuff on just one topic, more like. It's been a lifesaver. But I'm thinking if I want to go back and see what I did Sunday 12 12:45 that was worth noting. I dunno--almost like tweeting to myself, I guess.

Let me look at path.
