PC of some sort. Not Mac.

Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
I have to say I really appreciate how easy it is to restore Firefox and Thunderbird to be exactly the same as it was on the old computer. Nice job, Mozilla, nice job.
I know! All your add-ons, bookmarks, history, everything! It's like nothing changed at all! It was very comforting.
Anyone an expert on DLNA? My Black Armor NAS says it supports it, and I've checked all the boxes worth checking, but I can't get the TV or my tablet to read anything from it. Error messages both readers.
The tablet reads pretty well from the laptop, so that's not the issue. TV works from the laptop too.
Tablet just says "Unable to play" TV says "No files available to playback"
But if I browse to the AVIs on the NAS itself, I can play the same ones that fail directly, with VLC.
I just don't wanna browse the file system on my laptop, dammit. That's not the point.
Is there a likely versioning issue? There doesn't seem to be any sort of update for the NAS firmware available.
Oh, goddamnit.
Corporate email on Androids can no longer be handled natively. Which means that my plugins for Locale/Tasker that knew when I was in a meeting no longer work. I emailed tech support of the company that makes what we have to use (Touchdown by Nitrodesk), and they clearly have never heard of either product. What's *really* frustrating is that they're pretending they understand my question (do you or does anyone else provide a plugin for your application?) without even googling either Locale or Tasker. Their replies are gibberish and irrelevant.
Which makes me really like their product less, because, yeah, I do also judge a company by their support desk. Why should I know about Locale and Tasker and their Android developers apparently don't (or support isn't bothering to check)? It's not obscure knowledge.
Oh, that sucks.
I am really having fun with Tasker so far, even though I've done only the most piddling things with it to date. But it was funny because I was sitting at one of our schools fiddling with it when the lights went out, and the SO was all, did you just do that with your phone? No, just wonky power and good timing. But the thing is, I COULD. Okay, not there, but all of the technology exists, I just would have to put it together (and okay, spend thousands on the physical installs, but still). So now I believe that all technology should talk to Tasker. Even though that's completely contrary to everything I've said up until now; now it's convenient for me!
Oh, and yeah, I haven't been able to get DLNA to talk from my NAS to my other stuff. But honestly I haven't fiddled with it much because it's pretty much just Avatar on there.
spend thousands on the physical installs
Actually, it's not so bad! I was just reading up on it, and depressing myself, because I will live in someone else's property for the foreseeable future (AKA my whole life) and there are Android/home automation integrations, and I'm sure I saw some Tasker stuff there too.
I tried to convince my parents to do it, because I have vicarious issues, but then I remembered I'd be supporting their house remotely, and never mind.
Guys, how do I Save a Google Docs spreadsheet emailed by another and opened and revised by me to my hard drive?
Thanks!

Thank you, Jon.
My sister's Thrive is here. It's interesting to handle a tablet with a different form factor. I don't believe Apple has any sensible point suing the panties off of Samsung, but the Thrive is clearly not like either of them. I don't think my sister will be disappointed that it's thicker than mine, and the rubberised back should make it feel like it's rugged on purpose.
I'm disappointed by the charger having a non-standard form factor, but I notice it came with a mini (or micro, didn't look real hard) cable. I suppose if I actually do research I'll find out if it can be used for more than data transfer.
I can't believe I can't work out what to install for her. A peril of having five thousand apps on my own devices. I need to focus on her productivity as a fanfic reader and a university lecturer and a lover of movies. In whatever order.
Speaking of my own devices, the Galaxy Nexus is behind on shipping, my backup phone won't boot, and my "primary" has a pain in its diodes down the left side. Thank god it auto-rotates, but that still only fixes a little. The Home button is busted, and bits of the screen are highly sensitive, so it takes a million tries because of over or under-sensitivity to do the littlest things.
I'm sorely tempted to buy a phone with a return policy to hold me out until the Nexus comes. This is fucking me over so hard. But that's...immoral. But this is the place I get myself into buy finding a price for the phone that's at least $50 less than anywhere else I've seen over the past 2 weeks.
