A full minute? Ok, I'll give it a shot.

Okay, I'm really hating the LJ code rollout. I know cannot reply to comments on my own LJ (which has the default scheme on the comment page) in Firefox. Pfeh.
If you're using an S2 journal style, go to Customize Journal Style and toggle "Disable customized comment pages for your journal" to No.
The guy who owns LJ Russia bought LJ to be a proto-FB/Twitter for the Russian people. The features western users have been happily using for a decade are unnecessary and meaningless for the function he intends LJ to have.
Ack. That makes sense. Is this your conjecture or based on actual statements?
the pass code is something you would set up to lock the iPod, Amy. a four digit code. if you haven't set one up though, that's not it.
Ack. I can't load my sister's Touch as a hard drive on Windows seven. It took half an hour to get iTunes to recognize it, but I still can't copy the music off. The laptop it was synced to is dead.
Any suggestions?

Yeah, it was already set to that. Not helping.

There was a quote with links yesterday in the lj releases thread. It's been verified that igrick is head of LJ Russia. It's also been reported that he's been rude and dismissive of western users and their issues.
There have been some fixes implemented, and some ongoing attempts to set things to an approximation of how they worked before, but it's new coding, and not restoration, and nobody knows how far those concessions will go.
I spent some time trying to find the links I followed yesterday, but the comments count on the "release 88" post reached more than 1900 in 30-odd hours, at least three-fourths of it protesting the changes, and I just can't wade through it all for a cite. Sorry!
I gave up Firefox for Chrome a while back because Chrome was so much faster.
Ironically, the one thing it CAN'T seem to load is Google services - I get randomly logged out of Gmail all the time, the omnibar only works because I changed the default search to Bing, and Maps takes so long to load I may as well just start driving and ask for directions along the way.
Anyone know of a possible reason for this and a way to make it better?
yes. upgrade to Chrome beta version. It is more stable.
I'm at 16.0.912.63
Hm, that's the same version I have.
Then I would purge all the cookies and our history.
