I love my iPad. It's remarkably light and fast. Since the latest OS release, you don't need to hook it up to another computer to download apps and such, so I find it a pretty useful stand alone device.

those of you with iPads, did you go the WiFi or 3G way? i really want one, but i want the 64GB so i don't have to worry overly about space.

Our wings are not tired

I have the Original 64 GB WiFi. I don't miss the 3G very often for my uses. When I do need it I just use the hotspot function in my iPhone to share to the iPad.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I have a 16GB Wifi, which was a gift so I didn't have a choice. The only time I missed having 3G was on Amtrak a couple of weeks ago, but I would like more storage.

When I do need it I just use the hotspot function in my iPhone to share to the iPad.

Is this on AT&T or just Verizon?

I'm on AT&T.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I don't have cell functionality on my Galaxy--I make my G2 into a hotspot and use that. Also, Time Warner Cable is making more and more hotspots in West LA.

I forget, I think it's an extra $20 a month and it adds 2 GB to my data plan. I do enough work around sites and airports that don't have free WiFi that it makes sense for me. I also use it to get my MacBook Air online quite a bit.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

tiggy,

I was just thinking about this issue yesterday while driving around. First, I think the 3g plans for the ipad (at least on AT&T) is highway robbery, so I have always felt that I should own a wifi ipad so I'm not tempted to spend myself into oblivion.

There are times I miss 3G, but with light planning, I can be pretty much set. For example, I make sure that I sync my ipad properly and most of my syncing includes dropbox, goodreader, instapaper, and some web pages through diigo browser. On vacation, I'll also make sure I have video synced.

For the circumstances where I want to move documents/files to the ipad (to the apps that support it), I use AirStash. It works well enough.

I think 3G might impact battery life, so between price and this, those are the two things to consider.

I do think my next ipad will be larger than 16GB. I definitely will go for a 32GB.

On TMobile I don't spend anything more in order to be able to use my phone as a hotspot.
