Sj,
I cannot find the service through my bookmarks, but I will look again later. Here is an article that might be of some use to you.
Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!

Thanks, le nubian. That's very helpful.
Funny thing -- managed to download the Windows 2000 driver, so was rethinking the purchase. But, I realized that new ink (printers been in a box for 3 years) would cost $75, so I might as well spend the extras $25 for a better printer that comes with ink.
Um, sorella, we are damn near the same person. Basically, I'm just taller.
MUCH taller! Even my 4 inch heels don't help.
Vortex, OfficeMax has the Samsung b&w laser printer for $50 starting Sunday.
TOO MANY CHOICES!! :) I'm going with the HP for the wireless printing and the cheaper cartridges. Thanks for the tip, though.
Ok. So I realize I am new to this whole smartphone world, and I also know that we've discussed several times here scenarios wherein one might quit tv by using one's broadband. But my broadband is limited. I'm paying by the gig, so I can't stream video, as my phone bill in the hundreds of dollars during the tsunami coverage will attest. (I'm on a better plan now, but nonetheless.)
However, I do have this spiffy new phone and/or laptop, both of which will play HD video and lots of hard drive space. Today I hooked up the DVI converter and the microHD cable and ran sweet sweet video off my phone to my projector. Voila, HDtv the size of my wall!
So. Now what I need to know is, are there apps where I can download rather than stream recent television, legally? Probably not, huh? I mean I got stuff like the espn app and the tv.com thing from cbs, so I can stream their stuff when I'm at wifi, but that's on my leetle screen instead of on my great big one. Am I out of luck?

All I can think of is if you have Tivo, there's the Tivo-to-go app. But then, you're not quitting TV since you need to record the show and download from the Tivo. So, no.

Well, but you CAN do over-the-air TiVo-ing. Not sure how well the basic stations come in in your area, Liese, but it's a possibility.
Also, is donwloading better than streaming, in terms of use of MB? You could buy on iTunes, but that might not be economical.
Well, my ota stations are pretty limited. I mean, I think I have the one where I get a plain blue background with the local news scrolling over it in white type. (I should possibly investigate this further. In New Mexico I was further out, and got nothing.)
And I don't have a separate Tivo. My Tivo is the Directivo, and therefore, tied to my satellite subscription.
Downloading is not better than streaming, except that if I can carry my phone to somewhere that I get free wifi, like the library or coffeshop or whatnot, I could download there and then carry it home and hook it up to the projector.
Buying on iTunes would work, I think, but a) android based, rather than apple based, and b) yeah, trying to save money, so it probably would cost more overall.
