I did NOT have a G+ account. Mostly because I keep some distance between my name online and my rl name. Not that most people here don't know both, but it's not actively linked. So I never went near G+.
I filled out their, "Dude, wtf?" form but ... yeah. No idea.
The form said I should make sure I hadn't dissed their ToS but I really hadn't.
Ugh.

Okay, only down an hour. My mail is back. Though, wow, does not having access to my primary email put into relief how much I totally rely on email. More than my phone, I think. Clearly I need to add in some redundancy.
And, no, no idea what triggered them to disable my account but they did get it back within an hour of me contracting them on their form. So there's that.

THIS. I use Gmail for EVERYTHING.
If you use Outlook, and it all loads into there, does that work? I just use it right on the web now.
I guess having a backup account is also necessary, right?

Does everyone have a tracker or something installed on their smartphone/tablet in case of loss or theft? I realised that with the way Android Market works, I can install something remotely on mine to do that after if it's been stolen, if I'm fast enough.
What's recommended for the major phone OSes?

I've been meaning to try out Gmail Backup from gmail-backup.com. It looks like they try to make it easy. Setting up a local client like Outlook or Thunderbird to download messages via IMAP would work too, but it can get complicated.

I set my Gmail for pop access, and have Thunderbird making a copy of all my Gmail, leaving a copy on the server. I set it and forget it, as long as I open Thunderbird with regularity, it gets downloaded. And Thunderbird opens a lot when I send links to friends from Firefox.
