What about Asus laptops? I've been pretty happy with my Asus netbook, but I don't know if there's any difference with the bigger machine.

Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
Don't know about Asus. My last Asus netbook lasted about two years. Actually the advice about Toshiba is probably good advice. Known as a quality brand with quality service. Don't know who else fits that these tday.
Jesse, what's the problem with the songs, again?
When I go to play songs I've bought, or sync my iPod, iTunes says the computer is not authorized. So I type in my Apple ID and password, and it says it is authorized. Lather, rinse, repeat. It's apparently a problem other people have (including our own megan walker!), but none of the suggested fixes work for me.
So this news about people losing their Google accounts and all their data makes me really nervous.
What's the best way for me to backup everything I've got on the Google cloud? I'm particularly concerned about the email. Just get Thunderbird and download everything?
Suela, there's this: [link]
I decided to try one month of backupify paid plan for that reason 'Suela. I don't have the time right now to back up 8 Gigs of email on Thunderbird.

This is where I admit that being geekish and fannish does not mean that I understand computers. That's the sort of thing that I don't think I'm capable of running safely.
When I go to play songs I've bought, or sync my iPod, iTunes says the computer is not authorized.
And then it won't let you authorize it? Way to create an unsolvable problem, iTunes!
(I couldn't remember the problem you were having, but I remembered it involved your computer AND your iPod AND songs you bought. I had bought a TV show episode on my iPod and wanted to transfer it from the iPod to my computer, and I thought you just sync it, but that didn't work. I drove myself mad trying to figure it out, until I realized there's a menu option of "Transfer items purchased on iPod." But there was never an authorization problem, so I doubt that would solve your problem.
Do you have more than one Apple account?
