Oh my god. What can it be? We're all doomed! Who's flying this thing!? Oh right, that would be me. Back to work.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Ah, good. Because that would have stopped me from upgrading. Now I'll think about it.

Our wings are not tired

I just placed an order for 10 of the new 2.5 GHz Mac Minis.

Thunderbolt will end up being pretty nice. Right now there's not a lot for it, but it's not replacing any ports right now. The old MacBook Air only had USB, the new one has USB and Thunderbolt, so you gain a port and don't lose any. The Mac Mini has both Thunderbolt and FW800.

I also know that my sister's modem is quite a bit older than mine and may not be handling the speed the provider has moved up to. If that makes any sense.

What is the model? This could very likely be the case.

Coding and Sleeping

At some point Thunderbolt won't be Apple only and I expect the peripherals should start to become more plentiful at that point.

NoiseDesign, does that mean you might have a slightly used mini that you want to unload?

There is a very good chance I will have a few machines that are ready to sell off shortly. I believe possibly some Mac Minis as well as some iMacs, and probably a MacBook or MacBook Pro.

Oooh, really? I might be interested in a Mini (my big HP laptop is better suited for staying on my computer desk at home, which is fine most of the time, but I've been thinking I'd like to have a little one to take to school).

I'll let folks know what's going up for sale once I've got the new machines configured and ready to drop into my rental batch. I get back to LA at the beginning of August and will know little while after that.

What I was surprised to learn recently is that Thunderbolt is PCIe and DisplayPort combined over a single cable. This means you should be able to cheaply make adapters for anything that is supported by PCIe cards, like FireWire.

Huh, that is interesting, Rob.
