Mine is 2TB, if that figures.

I'm not sure it is common, but some of the bigger external hard drives typically need more than the USB port for power. Like getting into the multiple terabyte category.
I have a 1TB hard drive that does just fine from the USB port.
Interesting. I'm looking at 1 TB drives. I'd prefer one that is powered from the USB port, but it's not a deal-breaker.
I have one of each. I am way more likely to do timely backups on the USB-powered drive. It's that one more bit of simple. I just drag it over to wherever I am and let Time Machine whirl. Reminds me, I need to do a backup now.

That is 100% me.
Is one prong wider than the other? Do your outlets have one slot wider than the other so that the plug can only go in one way? If the answer to both questions is yes, then you've got nothing to worry about. Everything is correctly grounded.
Um...both prongs are the same size. I think I'll be returning this baby.
My backup drive is EVEN EASIER. It just sits there. And I walk in the house with the laptop, and it goes, oh, hey, you've been working. Here, let me grab all those files that have changed or are new for you. I will keep them safely here on my mini RAID arrayed self, two copies of them.
Question: what is a decent print to TIFF program for the PC. Normally when I ask this kind of question the problem is too few. This time google gives me thousands of hits, most which are actual print2Tiff programs. So of the many many choices I want to pick one that lets me choose resolution, is not buggy and is free of malware.
As soon as I stick a writable DVD drive it says it is a CD drive. Happens with an old DVD drive that works on other computers so I suspect it is the computer not the drive. Specifically since it is a netbook that has no native DVD I suspect there is a missing driver but google is so fucking spammed that a google search won't find the driver for me.
Is the external drive cobbled or a brand name?
