I agree. what a fucking nightmare. they ruined lifehacker too.

Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
IO9 has lost a few posters for at least a while because of it.
I like the Lifehacker changes, though I wish I could resize the Headlines bar on the right. Otherwise, I think it's pretty. Of course, I read most of Lifehacker through the RSS feed, so I don't have much invested in it.
My big beefs are:
- It's an application now, not a web page. Keys do weird things like move between articles.
- Reduced functionality. You can't heart people anymore, or promote a comment without replying to it, for instance. It no longer displays reply notifications. You can't upload pictures from your hard drive.
- Harder to notice new articles. If they don't highlight it, it's smushed on the right and really easy to overlook. The order they appear in seems to vary from page to page too.
- BUGS. You can't view more than 1 or 2 replies on new comments in the forums. The right pane doesn't work in the forums. Clicking through to some articles via some paths doesn't show comments.
It's one of the worst rollouts I've ever seen.
dang ita.
besides that, Mrs. Lincoln, did you like the play?
It was worse day one. So much worse. I don't know if anyone has been chastised because of it, but I would have been raked over the coals.
Where is the masthead now? Just gone?
Yup. I've seen the question asked, but not answered.
Yeah, I read all that stuff rss, so I don't notice. But, you know, I'm not a joiner. I don't need to talk to those people not us, so the missing functionality isn't a problem for me.
The Atlantic on the Denton network change.
IO9 was probably tied for #2 for me in terms of other places to discuss things with WX. Just with much less overlap--there's only one Buffista that ever posts there that I know of, and I doubt she'll be back after the design change.
Gawker and Jezebel were faffing off sites for me, but I've gone back to them *significantly* less often. I think the new design crashes Opera for me. It hangs periodically for me if I have one of the sites open. I want to go back to IO9 like before, but it's not like they'd ever rewind.
If they'd just fucking fix what was broken, that would be a start.
