Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
By keeping an eye on their site, and upgrading whenever they mentioned they'd carry it over. But I would try asking and pushing, just in case.
I've got a Series 2 with lifetime, and I just don't watch enough (current) tv to justify upgrading. I keep playing around with numbers, though, to see if getting rid of a cable box and having only the Tivo box instead would help.
But no matter how much I crunch the numbers, the cable bill isn't going away (half of the bill is my cable internet) and my love of baseball means always needing to get Comcast Sports Bay Area and the MLB network.
Yeah, call and press them on it. My lifetime subscription is onto it's 4th Tivo at this point, and the Tivo in the bedroom is on its second transfer.
Same here, moved from an S1 to an S3... which has all kinds of neat tricks, including getting the Netflix subscription service, so all the instant watch movies and TV series are available. I was surprised at how much nicer it was.
Plus, two tuners! You don't have a roomie with her own tastes, but it does make for for less conflict about what to record, plus the occasional times when two things I want to watch are on.
I got my IT people to set me up a wiki! The problem is, now I have to figure out how to use it. I'm clear on the concept, and could figure out how to edit an existing wiki without too much angst, but I've now got an out-of-the-box MediaWiki setup that I need to configure and make less hideously ugly and structure for my needs. Anybody got some good resources? I am sort of at the blank-brain-of-overwhelm-and-terror stage right now, but I am sure I will progress into rational thought over the course of the day.
Does TiVo still do lifetime subscrptions? I'm not finding them on the website. We may be getting my dad a TiVo for Xmas.
I get e-mails from Tivo telling me I can get lifetime service (not transferring my current lifetime service, btw) on a Premier if I upgrade, but it might not be available for new customers.
I tried to log into the Tivo page but I don't have access to my old email address anymore and when I tried to update that it insisted on sending a message to my Tivo to confirm I am who I say I am (and that I have the same machine).
Um, fellas, the reason I'm logging in is because my Tivo won't receive data anymore! ::grinds teeth::
I shall have to use their chat function on my day off. Bah.

My service is up for renewal and they are offering it to me. I don't think it's offered initially for new machines.
