Is there a "Settings" or "Search Settings" link in the upper right corner of the page? Try clicking that, then scrolling down to Google Instant and select "Do not use Google Instant."
eta: Less drastic solution -- when I click the X in the upper right corner of the current pop-up window, it does seem to stop the pop-up behavior.
Yeah I hate hate too but have not tried to disable it because google is one of the sites not allowed to have my cookies. I really dislike that it does it default without my permission. And it causes me problems because I have very limited bandwidth, and I don`t want to use it on predictive searches about what I`m not even looking up!
Not talking about google instant. Clicking x didn't work before, but now google results have stopped giving me previews.
do you have competition in your area? You might be able to extend your deal.
My apartment doesn't look to have line of site for dish. FiOS isn't available for my building, despite seeing there trucks for a couple weeks outside of my building. I'm guessing the building has too many apartments, or something. No other providers for my area.
First call Charter and see what current packages you are eligible for. I call them every six months and they pretty much always find a new package to put me on.
They said the only thing they had was there "lock in two years of savings" deal. Which, if you cancel early, you have to pay $150. I don't like that notion. If FiOS or Uverse move in, I'm jumping ship.
I'll try calling again. Maybe a different operator will be more helpful.
How much does the "lock in two years of savings" deal save you? I don't know how much your cable bill is or how much the savings would be, but if it saves you $20 a month then you cancel out the $150 in 8 months (I know with my old cable bill, it wouldn't take a large percent decrease to save that much). That seems like a pretty reasonable gamble to me. I doubt FiOS will be cheaper when they come, though perhaps better.
$11. 1/3 of the new customer discount.
This is when having a roommate comes in handy -- you can cancel, wait a month, and have the roommate acquire a "new customer discount."
This might be old news to people, but I'm linking to it here, because I hadn't actually realised I could use Time Machine to an SMB share.
D'oh!
That'd really be useful if I still had a Windows machine.
Wait, I could use that to back up virtual machines. Huzzah!
I have heard that using an unsupported drive share on Time Machine can be dangerous; that it's easy for the backup to become corrupted and therefore useless.
