I'm not used to dealing with this. New job as inkjet printer (I usually buy cheap brother laser printers). This is a decent scanner/copier/printer guy, so I can't just buy a new printer instead of ink.

Is there a good source for OEM Canon ink cartridges? They seem rather pricey.

I would swear that many of the big box office stores refill injet cart, but can't swear to brands.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

Costco does refills but not for the inkjet printer I have.

I've heard horror stories of the refill leaking. Afraid to do that. Am I being irrational? (this is why I like laser printers)

Thanks. It seems Supermedia.com, Walmart and Shoplet are all within a couple bucks of each other for OEM Canon ink. For a complete set, it looks to be about $80. Which seems outrageously priced to me. And the horror stories I hear, and have read in reviews* has me worried about using non-oem stuff. And has me thinking that it's all some big racket, that if you have to have a precise chip for this ink, and the non-oem can't buy that chip, then it seems like a monopoly type of thing, and needs an investigation to defend our rights to free enterprise.

:: steps off soap box ::

Oh, and the * is to say, I know reviews are filled with crackpots who have no clue. But sometimes they bring up good points, so I have a grain of salt, and take heed.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Yeah, you don`t buy printers, you buy ink consumption machines. That`s the business model.

No kidding. I recall NoiseDesign mentioning he just buys a new printer, it's easier, and about the same price. Alas, no can do.

I wish I could just go somewhere to get flensed but none of the whaling ships near me take Medicare.

Yeah, that's why I've always bought laser printers. I can do without color printing. If I need something in color, I'll go to Kinkos.

I'm trying to be fiscally prudent, since I work for a state agency and all. But this is crazy. I have a crappy laser printer that drops more toner on the sheet where there isn't text than where there is, and can only be connected to the old XP machine, and can't be shared. And I have the sweet multi-purpose machine that costs a fortune in ink, but scans my receipts rather nice. I can't get rid of the scanner guy, I use it. But I'm real tempted to dump the old laser printer and get a cheap Brother and be done with it. I don't print that much, so that laser cartridge will probably last me a long time. And just never print on the inkjet multi-purpose guy.
