quester, can you keep the Internet and give up cable?

I'm not even considering cable. I'm just trying to keep the minimum until I can figure out what I can really afford. This is all kind of happening fast and isn't really very well planned.

I'm moving out of my sister's house and leaving the free satellite and dsl behind.

Is free wi-fi at McD's or Barnes & Noble, or some coffee shop type of thing not an option?

How much would dial-up be? I have the cheapest speed AT&T connection ($20) which is fine for my purposes, except long videos (if I got rid of cable, I might bump the speed up a notch for that reason). But it's fine for email, posting here, and downloading iTunes, which is most of what I do on the Interwebs.

quester, I think DSL might actually be as cheap as dialup. And I suspect if you are getting new service you can probably get a deal for 6-12 months.

Thanks, le nubian. Free wi-fi would be okay if I wasn't looking for a job. I need to get my email every day in case there is something. All of my resumes have my gmail address on them.

Plus, what would I do without you guys.

Hmm, so get dialup for reliable email, then then use free wi-fi where possible. I think netscape and one of its competitors does dialup for $12 or $15 a month.

I may just go with the DSL because they are running a special on it for the first 6 months and I averaged it out and it works out to $32 a month for the first year.

Dial-up would cost the $20 a month and then with the cost of the D-U service it would work out the same.
