Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

In the AirPort utility, go to Manual Setup → Internet → Internet Connection, and where it says "Connect Using:" set it to "Ethernet" rather than PPPoE.

It worked! Thank you, Tom!

Now, I just have to rearrange my surge protectors and extension cords again. Too many things to plug in, nowhere near enough outlets.

I hate those. All the wires everywhere bother me. I got a bunch of the kind that plug into both outlets in a plate and then give you six outlets right against the wall. So much neater. And all my extra wire lengths are wrapped with twist-ties. At my old apartment, I had wires taped the the back of the legs of my desk so that they wouldn't be dangling. t /wire-related neurosis

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

All the wires everywhere bother me.

Here's a solution:

Repurpose a Tube Sock as a Playful Wire Cozy

This is awesome: Snakey wire cozy

Report: Google Tablet launching on Verizon on Nov. 26

Have you been waiting for Google to launch a full-on attack on Apple's iPad? Well, the wait sounds like it's almost over, as apparently Google is launching their own tablet on Verizon on Black Friday, November 26th.

It's all rumors, to be sure, but they seem to be pretty reliable. Apparently, Google and HTC, who teamed up to create the Nexus One, are reuniting to create this tablet. It should run Google's Chrome OS, with some reported specs including Tegra 2 graphcis, a 1280x720 multitouch display, 2GB of RAM and a 32GB SSD. And a 3G connection, of course, if it's launching with Verizon.

Someone on my local parenting list is selling a Kindle for $75. If it's still available (I just emailed the guy), what should I check before buying it?

[well, nevermind - looks like someone else got to it first.]

Does it have a USB port? (the google tablet, not Jess's potential new Kindle)
