I am on my work computer trying to figure out how to get the neat feature in Thunderbird that my home computer has. For the life of me, I can't find where to turn on the Quick Filter option, and don't recall doing it on my home machine. After much research, I come to realize, that is a new feature to 3.1. Home is auto update the software, work, was not. All fixed. Thought I'd share the funny.
ION- It seems work has in a closet, a shiny cheese grater Apple G5 tower. Apparently missing some internal parts (at least the hard drives, and something to do with the processor). Not sure what is wrong with it, that caused them to partially gut it. It being so pretty, it pains me to see it just sitting in the closet. I was curious if anyone had any thoughts? Can I completely gut it and rebuild it as an Intel machine? Or is the architecture different? Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions? Since it is University property, we can't toss it. And since IT purchased it, I can't give it away. And apparently since it's old technology, IT doesn't want it back.

It's a bit of a doorstop. If youcan get it running you could use it for Qlab, but you'll probablyspend more than it is worth getting it running. I have a dual core G5 tower collecting dust in my office right now. It gets turned on about every 8 months to run a system update.

Amazon Announces New Kindles: $139 Wi-Fi, $189 3G
Last night, Amazon announced an all new Wi-Fi only Kindle that starts at only $139 with a 3G-capable one for $189.
Amazon.com is excited to introduce a new generation of Kindle. The all-new Kindle has a new electronic-ink screen with 50 percent better contrast than any other e-reader, a new sleek design with a 21 percent smaller body while still keeping the same 6-inch-size reading area, and a 15 percent lighter weight at just 8.7 ounces.
Both models are slated for release on August 27th though Amazon has begun preorders. The new Kindle is also said to offer 20% faster page turns, up to one month of battery life, and double the storage to 3,500 books. The 3G Kindle offers over-the-air downloads of books for no monthly fee. The new Wi-Fi model will, of course, require you to be connected to a Wi-Fi network to purchase books.
If I had a Kindle, I think I could survive on just buying books while connected to WiFi....

Um, yes. I don't know why 3G would even be necessary. I buy all my books attached to home wifi.

Hey. New board.
Walking down the street to coffee shops. Coffee shops without free wireless. In bookstores. In hotel rooms without free wifi. At houses of old relatives without wifi. In cars (as a passenger of course).
I think the 3G is definitely worth a one-time $50 investment. Not so much the monthly iPad costs (I would go wifi only there) but $50 once is cheap.
