Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

heh ... a story from the lighter side of tech problems: A coworker pulled a list of names and, when I looked at it, a bunch of the names were in the wrong order - last name first. I told her and, since we've JUST upgraded our database, I figured it was a glitch in the system.

She investigated and found the problem - the person who'd entered the information had put the last names in the first name field. Happy ending - she hadn't yet printed out the certificates they'd just earned. And the person who screwed up is the one redoing the data entry.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

the OverDrive website has a Mac version for download

Yes, but according to both their FAQ and the library's, it only plays their MP3s. The books I want are only available as Overdrive WMAs.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

And the person who screwed up is the one redoing the data entry.

It's a Christmas July miracle!

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Excel question: What's the formula that I need to search a row to find out if any value contains a certain character? Not is equal to, but contains? I need to scan a range for "|", and I can't work out the simplest way. Everything I can think of is unduly convoluted.

eta: Oh, good god. Never mind.

eta2: No, that was too obvious. Search() doesn't work across ranges.

I use Overdrive all the time, I'm pretty sure if the audiobook has DRM it isn't going to work on Apple products. iPods only support Apple DRM and only Apple provides content with Apple DRM. Probably the easiest solution is a cheap Sansa Clip.

Unless there's an app that supports WMA. I doubt one exists, but maybe it's possible.

Never mind it doesn't do WMA.

Our wings are not tired.

So just got told by IT that my new iPhone has arrived and is being configured. I should be excited yet am filled with ambivalence. Please tell me how silly I am being and that the iPhone 4 is magical and worth my $400?!
