Deena, I have an old Dell laptop that I can send to you. Just let me know.

Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
Thanks, javachik, that's so sweet of you. I have backup, so I'm okay. I'm just frustrated because it doesn't have my programs, or my stuff, and it's got less memory, but mostly the programs and the stuff. I saved everything to that computer. I've really got to stop doing that.

Isnthat the same Dell laptop I used to watch The Office (and many other DVDs) when S was in the hospital in SF a couple of years ago?
It sho is. Boyfriend has been borrowing it for a year, but he just bought himself a new laptop so it's now freed up again.
That was such a sanity saver that holiday season, jc. Thanks again for that loan.
You're welcome!
I love that there's a spare Buffista laptop floating around. It's like the high-tech equivalent of that box of kids clothing that's been making the rounds since Matilda was born.

The worst part?
The subscriber data was obtained by a group calling itself Goatse Security.

Deena, the tech guy should be able to hook your hard drive into another computer or an external enclosure to check it. If he's not doing that he's either not very good or is trying to rip you off. Enclosures (which transform internal drives to external drives) are cheap.
