A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

I coulda sworn I've dragged and dropped fonts in XP and they've been automagically installed. This was an improvement over older versions of Windows where I did need to use the installer.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

That's how I did it too, I was pretty sure. But I use a font manager these days, because I don't want the overhead of having them all installed, but I need the ability to preview them. I think it's definitely something the OS should have inbuilt. I'd rather that than a web browser, I think.

Even if they're physically in the folder, they're invisible until they're installed, but you can't access them to install them.

I don't know Windows 7 but can you still set your folder settings to show hidden files?

All is well that ends in pizza.

Kind of reminds me of Bonjour.

Thanks, DCJ. I had thought it was Oracle-proprietary and totally tied to databases, but I guess not.

XP did automagically install, but the magic is gone from Windows 7. You can set your folder settings to show hidden files, but not in the Fonts folder.

I need to pare down the fonts list, heaven knows. It has just growed, like Topsy.

That's just bizarre.

Definitely a step back, and a weird one as that can't be hard to implement.

How are you me? You need to stop that. Only I can be me. ~Kara

I was able to automagically install fonts on Windows 7. I can't check how I did it, though, because my computer's in the shop.

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

Windows 7 Help says:

To install a font: Right-click the font you want to install and click Install.

Tip: You can also install a font by dragging it into Fonts in Control Panel.
