I am typing from an iPad. Sadly, it is not MY iPad. S is under very strict orders not to let me go to the apple store on the way home.
I have a deep love for my iPad. So far my laptop has only come out of my bag for a total of 5 minutes on this trip.
Yeah, I'm really liking it - I was expecting to find it really appealing and want one of my own to curl up with on the couch and watch Netflix and play casual games and all that consumery whizbang I-don't-care-if-it's-not-hardcore-productive stuff, but I wasn't counting on how strong the visceral WANT NOW was going to be even after approximately 47 zillion Apple products.
I'm used to feeling like "this is way the hell nicer than other computers/mp3 players/phones, so why would I want a different brand" (and I know that's worth it to me and not always to others, and everyone's got their own priorities with those decisions)... this thing is beyond "nicer" and somewhere in the land of "whoa." And I don't want to return it. Already.
But surely you want to wait until you can get one with 3G connectivity rather than just WiFi, Amych?? Or maybe that's just me and my airport-going self.
Oh, yeah, I'll definitely wait - among other things, this one belongs to work and I can't afford my own, like, rightnowtoday. But the appeal really is crack-like, and feels different from a lot of other devices that are a cooler X rather than a new and different type of X.
Yeah, I may get one for my Mom when her current computer suicides, but not before then. I'd like one for myself, but I think I can nurse my current computers for some time yet. By the time I get one for me or mom I hope they are cheaper and better.
Yeah, I'm loving my iPad as well. My only mini-tiny complaint is that it's a little heavier than I thought it would be. I finally got the Apple case for it today. My local store has been out of it since it came out.
I opted for the non 3G version mainly because I already have a Verizon MiFi hotspot with a 2 year contract. When that ends I'll probably be ready for a new iPad and will look into the 3G, or whatever is current, version.
I'm also seriously considering getting the 16 GB model for use in the office/shop as an easy and portable way to track rentals coming in and out. I'm going to do more research on it when I get back to Los Angeles.
