A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

I have the original S3 (pre-HD and HD XL), and I remember the instructions being pretty clear that you needed 2 cable cards; it wouldn't work with just one. But maybe newer cablecard technology made those instructions obsolete? Or maybe the newer S3 machines have updated cablecard-reading hardware?

Our wings are not tired

The original S3 needs two single stream cards. All other Series 3 can use either one multistream or dual singlestream cards.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Weaknees calls out three dual tuner HD models. I'm guessing mine goes both ways.

Thanks, ND. So I could save $1.50/month by upgrading. Errr... maybe not.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Ah - I was so late to the upgrade party I didn't realize there were older versions.

IOTivoN, my shiny new-to-me-but-probably-refurbished one is happily updating its software right now in the other room. So far my favorite feature is how it's not rebooting every fifteen minutes for no reason.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

There was NO LINE at Tekserve tonight. Awesome. I'm used to waiting for at least an hour.

Meanwhile, there were no Genius Bar reservations available until Saturday.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

I realize I'm off topic for the thread but I figure it's worth a shot. Would anyone be able to recommend a power sander for refinishing furniture?

DCJensen - Mar 05, 2010 1:46:52 am PST #13188 of 25501
All is well that ends in pizza.

I would avoid sanding as much as possible by using good removers like those form Formby's, then then finish up with a orbital sander or detail sander or even a multi sander like this.

OTOH? I've seen "mouse" orbital sanders fairly cheap and are good for flat surfaces with extra details.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

My new-ish TiVo HD indeed needed only one CableCard to access two channels at once. Also it was recommended to me by both the TiVo Support and the cable people support that I have a a cable tech call to install the card, since a fair number of them seem to be lemons, so he could try more than one if that was a problem.

Me too.

So far the new-to-me Tivo seems to be working fine, and Cablevision was able to bind the old cablecard to the new Tivo without any problems over the phone. Now I'm just crossing my fingers that I still have ABC by Sunday night...
