Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Thanks, I'll give that a try next time I'm on the... 3G... modem... thingie....

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Android Contacts suck. All my numbers that were listed by company name are now just listed by phone number. The company name information is still stored, just not on the primary screen, and not searchable.

Is there any simple way around that? They're listed sensibly in gmail contacts.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

My Tivo is on the fritz. It's been rebooting at completely random times for no apparent reason for the past few days. (And I do mean *completely* random - I notice it mostly when we're trying to watch something, but I've also noticed it rebooting itself while the rest of the AV system is turned off and there's no scheduled recording or anything.)

If I had to pinpoint when it started, it would be when I upgraded the router last week, so I reran Guided Setup to make sure the new network settings weren't confusing it. (The Tivo is connected to the router via ethernet, so it's not a wireless problem.)

My next step is to call Cablevision because there's also an intermittent CableCard error message that comes up, but based on what I've read on the Tivo forums, the reboot thing seems to be a known issue with the Tivo HD models and happens with or without a cablecard.

Anyone here encountered this and fixed it? It took me almost 2 hours to watch Caprica this weekend because the damn thing was rebooting itself every 15 minutes.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

I think it may be worth it to call in to TiVo support for this? Frustrating for sure.

According to the Tivo forums, Tivo has been refusing to acknowledge this issue since 2008. (But it also seems like most of the people with this problem have voided the warranty by upgrading the hard drive, which I haven't done.)

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

Android Contacts suck.

Yeah.

The closest I've been able to come to being able to search by company is to go to Gmail, go to Contacts, and create a group for each company, and assign contacts to their various groups. Then in Android Contacts, go to Display Options and un-check all the groups other than the one for the company you want to see.

Android Contacts needs a search function to match the one in Gmail.

I see a lot of bitching about it on the google android forum. It's a big oversight.

ION, I am a total database geek. My boss is having me research the deadlock thing I posted on Friday, and I'm learning about SQL queues, services, routes, event notifications, etc.

Fun!

So, if I buy high-def TV shows from the iTunes store, it downloads two files for each show - a regular-def version and a high-def version. But after the download, the regular-def version goes away.

Anyone know what's going on here?

The second version is for copying onto your iPod or iPhone.
