Can you just go to the "Insert" ribbon and select one of the Page Number styles that has 'Page X of Y'?

That's the only way I've found but I don't want it to freaking style my document for me!! It's so ridic. Seriously. I feel very alone in my office about this because nobody else really cares how things look, I guess. possibly also I'm not the most patient person in the world.

lisah, is it under the option called "Quick Parts"? I haven't used that, but it looks like you can go to Fields, DocProperty, and then Pages.

I can get to that field but I can't figure out how it works.

Can you reformat it after it's inserted? It'll put in the fields for you, but you can change it after that.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

If you insert a field that displays the current page, then insert a field that displays the total number of pages, and then put "of" between them, that should work. Though it seems ridiculously convoluted. I also had to right-click and Update Field to get the total number of pages field to update.

Yes, Word 2007 sucks balls. And no one here wants to uninstall because of some drama with our Microsoft contract.

Hey. New board.

lisah: [link] . It's basically what Dana says, but it shows that it's not that different from how it was done in 2003. Apparently, all they've done is remove the option from the Header/Footer toolbar. Which is stupid, but so it goes.

Inter-computer question. At work, the show computer is a Mac. Visiting Artist has a Windows machine. To cue the sound effects, it's great for the designer to screen share the Mac. Normally the designer has a Mac, so it's real easy. Is there a way for the Windows machine to screen share? I tried TightVNC, and couldn't get it to work. It could very well be an id-10-t error.

Would LogMeIn do the trick? They have a free account that works well for me.

It used to be one step and now it's like a million and you still have to update the field. I just copied and pasted from a doc I'd done in 2003 and that seems to work.

Not on my cheap-o laptop. I wonder if there is something on the Mac end I have to activate to get it to work on a Windows machine. Doesn't matter for now. The designer said he didn't want to install anything on his machine to get it to work. So we pulled the mini out of the rehearsal rack and have that on the tech table. So he can screen share with that, and then still have his laptop to edit the cues.
