I have a feeling I already know the answer to this one. Is there any way to sort by color in Excel?
(One of my dear colleagues in another office has ignored my instructions to use the number-code column and instead labeled her selections in yellow...on a spreadsheet of nearly 6000 lines...)
Hmm. I bet you could use VBA to determine the color of each cell and put the result in a new column.
I found this, but I'm not sure it works in Excel 2007. I can't find the "Insert Module" function.

colleague or superior? because if she's on the same level as you, send it back with a polite note asking her to do it the way that you told her to because you can't work with it this way. And cc your boss so he knows what's going on.
It's complicated. The email was sent by the SVP in that office (top of the food chain in the US offices), but I'm pretty sure the actual *work* was done by a peer of mine. I've asked her to redo it, but I expect pushback.
My immediate supervisor was on the same email chain and saw the mistake the same time I did. (Honestly, I would just assign it to the temp, but she's out until the middle of next week.)
OMG! You *can* sort by cell color in 2007! I think this may be the first actual IMPROVEMENT over Office 2003 I have ever come across!
Problem solved. Copy-paste here I come.

What, you don't like the Ribbon?
(sorry)
One of my biggest problems with my immediate colleagues is that their knowledge of software is so basic that they can't even imagine what is possible, so they can't imagine why you would care if it was numbers vs. colors, or whatever.
Luckily, I now have backing in the assistants so we just go in and periodically clean up spreadsheets.
I will be so happy if I'm able to change groups soon.
I have mostly come to terms with the ribbon, and accept that it is probably a better interface for people coming to Office for the first time.
But I resent having to relearn a piece of software I've been using since college just because half the functions are now either moved or renamed.

In this case, it's just basic reading comprehension combined with the inability to give a fuck. I gave specific instructions on how to use the number codes, and I was ignored. Big surprise.
