Yay! I'm glad they're finally going out.
(I also think it was a HUGE mistake on Google's part not to give people the ability to invite others instantly, even if it meant starting with a smaller beta pool -- there's essentially nothing you can do to try it out without contacts, and I think a lot of people got it and looked and went, "okay, but what does it do?")
lifehacker has a great article about Wave, and one of the first commands they tell people to use is "with:public" - it is overwhelming, but I'm digging reading all the waves.

Does anyone know where the google wave toolbar is? I'm trying to use some gadgets, but I can't figure out how to get them into my wave. The help page says to drag them from the toolbar, but I don't see one.
