I'm going to sell an old computer, and had bookmarked this old post about how to really clean it up: Jon B. "Buffistechnology 3: "Press Some Buttons, See What Happens."" Jan 8, 2009 8:21:38 am PST But I can't imagine I have anything on there that is actually dangerous to share. I guess what I'm really asking is, do I hafta? Reformatting already feels scary to me....
Relatedly, I found the Office 2003 disks I bought for that computer -- should I sell them with the computer, or can I load it onto my new computer? I guess my question is, is the program tied to me or to the machine?
Crap -- now I can't find the AC adapter part of the power cord, although I have multiple ones of the other part. Is it at all possible that my current computer (bought at Best Buy or somewhere) came without one?
le nubian that worked like a charm!!! you are my saviour!! is there an easy way to bring over the extensions and bookmarks i had saved in the other profile?
I'm very glad that worked. I have had to do that a couple of times over the years.

So, I would probably advise you to do a new install of extensions to your new profile - because I wonder if one of those extension screwed up your previous profile.
Bookmarks should be okay, but your extensions - I would only install what you absolutely need and then be careful after that.
do I hafta?
I would.

Nice thing about destroying something is that you're not trying to rescue anything. If you mess up, you're no worse off than when you started.

It's tied to you. But you'll need the software's serial # to reinstall.
thanks, le nub. i was thinking the same thing about the extensions. i appreciate all your help!
FWIW,
I use FEBE to backup my Firefox profile and transfer extensions to a new computer. I backup my firefox profile 2x a month or so.

I have that! OK, I'll hang onto that.
I did reformat and that went fine... Oh, but if I need to download something, I'll have to reinstall the modem software, huh. Meh.
Yesterday, after driving through an area of no signal, my iPhone became convinced that it is an hour ahead of the actual time. (as in, it's 12:57 here but my phone thinks it's 1:47.) I have tried turning it off and syncing it with no luck. Any other ideas? It's weird because I haven't left this time zone in over a week.
Stephanie's phone is from the future! Pass it on.
