Dunno, but GPS devices generally can function as a compass. But I've heard the phone will now have a built-in compass chip (that uses the Earth's magnetic field, not GPS).

(about AT&T's delay, that is - not about the eventual coming of the feature)
Tethering is a seamless experience -- once it's on, you don't have to run any additional software. Requires carrier support -- 22 supported carriers when launched -- AT&T was not included.
