I'm sorry, dad. You know I would never have tried to save River's life if I had known there was a dinner party at risk.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Think the search market is saturated? Microsoft doesn't. Lifehacker discusses bing.com.

Which reminds me--what settings could be set in OS X to make web sites think I'm in Australia? My PC seems to be in the US just fine.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

I heard that Wikipedia has banned the Scientologists from editing their entries - anyone know if this is true or just one of those urban legends?

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

It's true.

Coding and Sleeping

Has anyone gotten this IQ Quiz thing when going to www.facebook.com? I just did and I killed the browser the moment it showed up out of pure instinct.

As near as I can tell, Gud, that IQ test is not even a Facebook app. It's a non-associated web site that makes its ad banner look like a FB app button. It will take you to a page where you have to sign up for a fee based cell phone service or something. None of your friends it claims have taken the test have actually taken the test. Those are made up bullshit numbers. If you pay close attention, it will change every time.

See, that's why I don't take Facebook quizzes or the like. They also use the information to sell to 3rd parties. I read an article that talked about how they used a "lifestyle" quiz. If you said that you were depressed more than a few times a month, they sold your email to a drug company that sells antidepressants so that they could spam you, etc.

Yep. Basically, what do people think "allow this app access to your information" means?
