PC. The Language Toolbar swears I'm in English (US), but my at and hash keys say otherwise!

So your locale is EN(US) and your language bar says EN(US). That's weird. Personally I'd try a reboot at that point before spending more time trying to figure it out.

That's what it wants you to do. You need to use something that'll make the UK English recoil in horror, like peanut butter or ice cold beer. Once it's suitably weakened you should be able to dispatch it with ease.
