S to the A -- using they/them pronouns!

No problem, Sophia. Come back if you have more questions!

lori, I agree with Gud--there are a couple of programs, like Undelete (I think! it's been awhile since I used it) that allow you to see the files on a disk after the file tree has been trashed, which is what it sounds like is happening with yours. It might be worth downloading Pathfinder, too (free 21 day trial, but worth every penny of purchase) just to see if the files are hidden on the disk or not, which the finder won't show you. Here's another search string on google that might help you find useful software: [link]

Thanks Gud and SA! A work friend just gave me a copy of Data Rescue X and I'm gonna try that today. I've already tried it on a different flash drive and recovered files from last July!

t eta it worked! Data Rescue X saves the day! And I didn't even have to pay for it.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Any Canadianistas around? We're trying to equip our Toronto office, only apparently nobody in Canada sells professional A/V equipment. Or watches TV.

Is there ANYWHERE in Canada where one can buy a multi-standard DVD player??? (We need to buy in-country for tax reasons -- otherwise we'd just get everything in NYC and ship it up.)

I can't even.

I could look into it for you. Bay Bloor Radio (for example) are a high-end audio/video phile place, so may not be what you're looking for.

They sell Pioneer among other things, and Pioneer does multi-standard, don't they?

ETA: sorry Jess, just realized you were looking nearly an hour ago and probably have something by now.

Nope! I've been working on other things - my supervisor is actually the one handling this (I don't rank highly enough to spend money on my own). I'll pass the links onto her, though - thanks very much!

[eta: And for this piece of equipment, a high-end consumer deck will be fine. We did finally manage to track down one of the THREE Beta SP decks in Canada. I guess all those TO production companies just smuggle their equipment over the border...]

Okay, did what I should have done in the first place, and called my buddy Brad, who's a steadicam operator for a few leads

Cinequip White (Panasonic) [link]

Best lead is probably Applied Electronics (various) [link]

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

How well-implemented is AJAX? I just read this excellent tutorial that makes me want to use it on my website, but if older browsers, or like Opera and Safari, don\'t play well with it (as is hinted at here), then I don\'t want to bother.

How well-implemented is AJAX?

Since AJAX isn't a well-defined term, there's no clear-cut answer to this question. It all depends on what JavaScript features you are planning on using.
