Okay, that NYT article on dictionaries that bon bon linked to has me wondering, how do you all say "niche"? I assumed all Americans said "Nitch", but a sidebar to that article indicated otherwise. [link]

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

how do you all say "niche"?

Neech. Or maybe neesh. (edit because I'm not sure how I say it.)

btw, how do you say "canard"? canARD or CANerd?

Gah, it is only 9am here and I'm starving. And freezing. And I forgot to bring lunch, so I'll have to brave the cold and wind outside to forage for food.

Whine, whine, whine.

"Niche" - when I'm reading it, it sounds like "neeesh" in my head. When I say it out loud, it is more like "nitch". I can't explain why it is different.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Neesh. CanARD.

What is even happening?

neesh, canARD

On American home improvement shows they often say "Nitch" and "Foy-yer" rather than "Neesh" and "Foy-yay".
