I think I'm being quite civilized enough when I refrain from drilling into their nerves without warning or anaesthesia.
Very civilized of you.

Slate educates us about steak.
At the Ferry Building I can go over to the San Francisco Meat Market and talk with a butcher and they really will tell me exactly what the cow fed on and where and how it was finished. Also there's a separate vendor that sells super untainted beef they raise for medical purposes (joint replacement and collagen and such).
gives ita's cousin evil stink eye
I can't be objective about my pain tolerance as compared to others. I do know that I tolerate pain better than an itch. I will tear at an itch until it becomes an easier to live with pain.
When I finally got to the oral surgeon, he didn't fool around. He just said, "Okay, we're going to do the surgery right now." I started to cry because I was so grateful to find someone who was taking it seriously.
YES. A thousand times yes. I think in my haze of relief, I proposed marriage. I mean, he was kinda cute, and he was giving me drugs legally!
I had swelling the size of a fist just under my nose. It was the opposite of pretty.
Back in the 60's I had a dentist rip out a tooth without any anesthisia! OMG!
When I had my wisdom teeth out, I was given a valium to take the night before and another the morning of, and them sodium pentathol for during. I don't remember anything!
Owner's daughter is here with her dog. The thing doesn't trust men and goes a little berserk every once in awhile. It might be some sound the machinery is making that we can't hear.
If he's continued to treat patients the way he treated you, odds are someone removed his balls years ago....
My beloved exdh had a sadist dentist who ripped out a bunch of teeth without warning and without adequate medication. I was furious on his behalf. The next week, somebody walked into the dentist's office and shot him dead. Fortunately, my ex, who was a cop at the time, had an airtight alibi. No tears were shed.
I, on the other hand, had my wisdom teeth taken out without drugs...voluntarily. Pain is preferable to needles in my world.
Men seem to be under a lot more societal pressure to ignore pain and be all manly when dealing with strangers (and I include doctors and nurses in this category).
It's taken many years for Hubby to be willing to admit how much pain he's in in front of me. He has an obscene tolerance for pain. He'll get asked the "On a scale of 1 to 10" question, and he'll say, "8," and the doc will say, "Well, that's high but we can work with that." Then I'll say, "Tell him where a kidney stone falls on your personal 1 to 10 list", and he'll say "6," and the doctor will go pale.
My husband defines "stoic in the face of pain" to the point of causing damage to himself, because he just cannot admit to weakness of any kind. Silly stupidhead.
Hmm, I ran out of vacation days before I hadthought I did. Turns out tomorrow is my last day off and I have now borrowed 2 days against next year. Oh well.
The (grand)parentals are here and mac is playing with new toys (Duplo blocks mainly) he was way spoiled, but many things are just being put away. He clearly was overwhelmed. Oddly the the biggest mass toy came from someone I have never met, a friend of the uncle. Odd what people give, both in being generous and also in what they feel is appropriate - this toy takes up one full toy box.
Are you not using the FMLA, msbelle? (not to be all nosy, just wondering.)
Happy Birthday, Jesse, Theodosia and Rayne!
I like my dentist because when he was working on a dead toothe and I felt pain- he was baffled - but gave me more drugs. Oddly, as long as I can trust that my pain complaints work, pain bothers me less. control issues
