From the front page of Wikipedia, because it caught my eye especiall in terms of the recent discussion . . .
the phenomenon of Renting-A-Russian sometimes refers to getting a male Russian ice dancer to country hop to pair with a female figure skater from another country
I wonder what it refers to when it *doesn't* apply to figure skating?

Yeah, you should have been in on the conversation I had with SA about what rating to give my Yuletide story. Thanks to fandom, I honestly couldn't trust myself to know the difference between NC-17, R, and PG-13 anymore.
They were current Starbucks gift cards, bid on by people inside the continental US.
One reason why people might pay more than the face value is that people collect the different Starbucks cards. I have no explanation for this, except that people will collect anything. I collect many things, so I have no room to talk. I discovered this when someone got all excited about my shareholder card. Starbucks includes a $5 card in its annual report.

"What, two guys kissing! In what world is that PG-13?!"
If you ever find yourself in Utah, wait till you're gone to buy your booze
The 64 and a half percent markup on liquor, wine and beer adds up to the tune of a 9-million dollar net profit last year.
Good lord! The Boone's Farm wine coolers I love are only $2.95 a bottle as it is, I had no idea I was drinking such low-class stuff.
Apparently Utah is having such a population boom that the guvmint is realizing they can sell more booze to the incoming heathens.

I love the Buffistas. So so much.
I was poking around On Demand earlier this week, and stumbled across the Travel Channel's 5 Takes episode on Alaska. One evening, they all head over to the grocery store to get supplies to cook at the hostel, and they showed the price for the smallest container of rosemary (which I can get at the local Jewel for about $2.00)--it was $4.98! Scary prices up there for stuff they can't grow locally.
