Hil, for the one off to the right of strategies, check wikipedia for German-style board games. I think I originally just googled strategy board games and then linked to wikipedia from there.

Hil, for the first one, think of Pinky and the Brain, and what they try to do. The second one is a very old game, not a Parker Brothers type game.

Thanks, Nicole! I've actually played that game -- I've got a friend who buys all these weird German board games off the internet and brings them to every party.
For the other one, it's the one above board games that's linked to nothing but that, so far. In between Scrabble and checkers .

Hmm. Still pondering that board games one. The Pinky and the Brain clue -- Conquest? Domination? Neither of those work. It's that war game, with the map of the world, right?
Hil, think of another board game that's similar to checkers in that it's only for two players and it's played on a board-type surface. It has dice and the winner is the first to remove all his/her pieces from the board.
