I was just offered a job in DC. They want me to start now. Um. Sorry, no.
Yeah, that commute would be a bitch.
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

So I got a pedometer. Turns out I already walk well over that, just in a normal day. More drastic measures are indicated (although NOT fat calipers!).
That is so funny. A friend and I were just talking about that. She goes to Curves and they weighed/measured her yesterday. This is someone who is 4'11'', 108 pounds dripping wet and they told her based on the calipers that she was 30% bodyfat. Uhm, no. No way. Also, that a friend of hers lost over 100 pounds just walking. I'm guessing more than 10,000 steps a day because she doesn't have a driver's license. Give up your car, Raq!
She goes to Curves and they used fat calipers? That's kinda crazy. I'm a Curves member also, and mine has some kind of electronic body fat calculator, but no calipers. I think those would end up in the ass of anyone that tried to use them on me. I DON'T NEED A TOOL TO SEE I'M FAT, BITCH.

(Who am I kidding, trying to close that tag...)
Indeed. I think I'm going to go back to walking to work. We started driving in a couple months ago because Christmas packages were coming in and we needed the car to bring them home. But the weather's nice, so walking to work it is!
This explains why I'm fanatical about good walking shoes, though.
has some kind of electronic body fat calculator,
I don't trust those either. Stick me in a tank of water, it's the only thing I'll believe.
Yay for BABY!!! Thanks for letting us know, MM.
And Curves? Don't even tell me how fat I am. If I come to your joint, it's with the understanding that I'm too fat. Let's just get to working on making me less so. If I start to get too thin
sorry, had to stop laughing
then you can start measuring my body fat, to make sure I'm not emaciated.
The only thing that makes me cranky about the body fat calculator thing is that I've been gym-ming it up since April and my numbers. haven't. moved. Any of them. Gah.
::shoving body image issues in a drawer because I just can't do that today::
good walking shoes
I could use some recommendations for good walking shoes. I have a bunch of ankle supporting, walking boots (Merrill's and the like) but they are so heavy. It turns out that the most comfortable walking shoes I have at the moment are some fairly flimsy running shoes...New Balance I think. They feel great while I'm walking the distance, but later I have muscle twinges.
Not yet found the definitive walking shoe.
I'm very fond of New Balance. I have wide feet and they seem to fit well. Different people with different foot issues will like others. Light is really a good thing in a walking shoe.
Wide is my issue too. I joke that I have Alley Oop feet. Nearly as wide as they are long. I wear a 5.5 or 6 in as wide as I can get them.
Light is right? Huh. Glad to know my instincts are working for me. I thought those highly padded, technically engineered shoes were the best, but I've never found any that were comfortable.
