We have a 4 gen picture from when my great-grandmother was still alive. She died when I was in college, which now strikes me as quite remarkable.

We should also have multiple 4 gen pictures since my nephew and niece were born, as both my grandmother's died after that, but no 5.

DH's grandparents lived with us for a time, so I may have some informal 4 gen pics around somewhere.

I had my dad's parents, my mother's mother and father, though he was estranged, and my mother's grandmother. My mother's father died in 97 or 98, right after I got married- but I never got to meet him. There was some regret, but not really a sense of great loss. My great grandmother died shortly after, which means my mother's mother will live to torture me for a very long time yet. This is the first grandparent I've lost where I really feel a huge hole in my life.

Back from doctor. Verdict: there's a Balrog in my goolie!

Er, wait. Just what my doctor described as a "serious" bladder infection. (I have a Balrog in my bladder!) So I have antibiotics, along with orders to take it easy this weekend, drink a lot of water, and avoid sex. (I must have looked pretty stricken at the last one, because she laughed and said, "Really -- it wouldn't be enjoyable until the infection clears up, I promise!")

The 4 and 5 gen pics are cool. We can't have one of those until somebody in my generation has a kid. No prospects for that on the near horizon...

I want my doctor to tell me to avoid sex. I think it would be funny.
