Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

This actually is my father's Oldsmobile.

Ha!

I drove a '66 (or so) Thunderbird in high school, white with black interior, a boy magnet; it was my stepfather's car, and he wouldn't let me have it for real when I left for college. (Not a foolish man, he.) Then the Mazda, which I named Ahura. After that was a blue Toyota Corolla, with a moonroof. I never named it; I guess I never fell in love with it. My crazy BF killed it, and then I got the only crappy car I ever had, an old Olds. BF killed that one too. Then BF was gone and it was safe to buy a car I liked. First one I ever bought entirely on my own. I got a 1990 Chevy Cavalier station wagon, then three years old, because I fell in love with it on the lot and I knew I could fit all my worldly possessions in it, and sleep in it if necessary. I named her Nessie, because she was a big blue monster. I drove it many years, across many states and through many moves. It had almost 250,000 miles when I finally decided to sell it and buy something newer. I'd never had to fix anything but the alternator. On the strength of that, I bought another blue Cavalier, this time a sedan. I have not been as happy with this one, but it is reliable, and it's now paid for, so I imagine I'll keep it for a hundred thousand miles or so.

Anyone else ever get over 200,000 miles on a car without it needing serious repairs?

What is even happening?

This is made of awesome.

Wow. No. I never even got out of the 60/70K range with my Toyota before it died (right around the time they were running the ads featuring all these people with a brazillion miles on their Toyotas).

To be fair to it, I did have it forever. I bought it new in August of '91. It died this past Spring. I could have put plenty of miles on it; I've just always lived near everything.

My youngest sister-in-law had a blue Cavalier when I first met my husband. It was a good little car.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

My Golf died with 198k - I didn't have the money to even figure out what was wrong, let alone fix it, or it might have gone further. Poor baby.

Still waiting and seeing on the Passat.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

My car history is short.

1981 Isuzu I-Mark diesel (coupe)

1984 Mazda 626 (coupe)

Those are the only two cars ever registered in my name. The last of which I signed over to my brother almost 9 years ago. (Both my cars were of the inherited variety, and the only reason my name was on them was for insurance purposes.)

Other cars in my life have included:

1991 Honda Civic sedan (Paul's). May have driven once or twice.

1998 Honda Civic hatchback (Badtzmobile. Also Paul's, technically). Drove often.

1990 Honda Civic hatchback (Doyle. Drove rarely. Also in Paul's name.)

1998 Saturn SL1. Current car. In Paul's name.

I've never purchased a car. Ever.

What is even happening?

Earlier, I couldn't figure out why I kept seeking out John frickin Cougar Mellencamp songs on YouTube. Now I've played Bowling for Soup's 1985 for the sixth straight time.

I think my subtext has rapidly become text.

I hope it gets fixed ASAP and the electric company people (not the equipment) get frostbit and lose their noses.

That's a lovely sentiment for linemen working 18 hours a day.

(Okay, I worked in the electric utility industry for 15 years. I'm a little touchy on subject.)

You're right, Ginger. I'm sure those poor sods are regretting the ice storm as much as the people without power. I was thinking more in the line of the bigwigs who probably won't pay for overtime, or to buy power from somewhere else to supplement what they don't have themselves right now.

Cars I have had:

1977 Toyota Celica (used, sold it to my brother in 1985 and he drove it up into the high 190ks.

1986 Plymouth Horizon (new, only ever new car, totalled in 1994)

1989 Toyota Celica (used, sold it with about 150k on it, one of my coworkers still drives it)

2000 Olds Alero (used, still driving it)

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Bailey? I'd be thinking more Ashton myself. Dogs not so big with the subtle, in my experience.

I didn't think he was hiding things. I thought maybe he was eating things.

Our wings are not tired.

Oh dear, there is no way I can list my cars. I bought my first one in 1972. It was a Volvo sports coupe, they didn't make them for long I don't think. Quite snazzy. There have been quite a number in the last 30some years. From my 1964 Chevy that I bought for $75 to a couple lovely mid-80's Jaguars. Drive a Jetta and a Ford van now.
