It's Daisy Jane's birthday?
Happy birthday, DJ!
She had a very good day, which is what Julias do best.
I adore this phrase.
We were woken at 7:30 Thanksgiving morning by my mom's best friend's husband at the door, to tell my mom that C. had died of a heart attack at 4 a.m. Completely unexpected -- she was 53.
I am so sorry. I am glad your mom was able to speak. That will be a comfort to many, I think.
My mom left early this morning. I was telling her last night that I will miss her. She reminded me that I am seeing her in a couple of weeks again... So I told her to drive safely instead.
Now I am cleaning up and washing her sheets and frankly happy at the idea of catching up on some tv and just hoping that she doesn't hit weather or traffic issues today.
And waiting for the guy who "bought" my desk (I asked for $10. Seriously. I just wanted it to have a happy new home, basically. He's coming back today for the desk chair that wouldn't fit in his car last night and to look at my desk so I can explain how to assemble his desk (which was a part of mine).
There is also coffee. I am a content and not bouncy Cass today. Just quietly getting things done.
Erin so sorry sending added strength to everyone
happy birthday Daisy Jane!

Happy birthday, Daisy Jane!
Is there any nice way to answer your mother when she asks "do you like dangly earrings?" that conveys both "yes" and "but not any you would ever pick, so stay the heck away from me with your badly made fake Native American crap"?
If you find out, let me know, Lee.
I had to stop wearing sweaters entirely for that very reason.
"Mom, over the years I have found that I don't typically like _____, but have been surprised, on the rare occasion, to find something that calls to me."
Of course this won't work if she sees you frequently enough to see that you wear or have ______ all over the place.
"Mom, over the years I have found that I don't typically like _____, but have been surprised, on the rare occasion, to find something that calls to me."
See, that won't work, because she will assume that since she is always right, anything she picks out will fall into the exception.
I think I just need to say no, and hope she has forgotten by the next time she sees me wearing dangly earrings.
How about, "Not usually"? Then if she sees you wearing them, you've got an out.
Erin, I'm so sorry about your mother's friend.
I got the letter to my friend's parents written. In some ways I know them better these days than I knew him. I basically just sad I was sorry for their loss and felt the loss myself.
Then I made lentil soup with spinach and feta and Mythos beer. I wish I had nice crusty bread, but it's good anyway.
