Hope everyone had a good day - reads like it so far.

Just got back from my sister's about an hour ago. We had turducken! It was delicious. They ordered it from somewhere in Louisiana, I think. The turkey was moist, and the duck was spiced up, and I don't think I actually got any of the chicken. Cornbread stuffing inside, also good.

We also had sweet potato casserole, broccoli casserole, bread stuffing, a mashed potato dish (there was more in it than just taters, but I have no idea what), fruit salad, cranberry sauce (can kind), candied yams, salad with hot bacon dressing, and rolls (because we needed more carbs). I had at least a forkful of everything except the cranberry sauce... and some things I had way more than a forkful. Yum. There was wine, but I didn't have any.

Dessert was pumpkin pie and lemon ice-box pie. I had the lemon ice-box pie - it's my immediate family's traditional holiday pie.

Family is all well, sister's pets are adorable, and do not make me sneeze. Had a Mary Kay consult along with my other (eldest) sister (my middle sister's partner has started selling MK prods, and we hadn't had a chance to try anything out, so we had a little girly time - it was a blast. And I found a lipstick that I love, which is huge). In sum, Turkey Day=good times.

Sorry for the confusion. I meant that there wasn't meat or broth in anything else, but that was actually wrong. Mom made 2 dressings, one with chicken broth and one with out. Also being from the South meat (like bacon or ham hock or chicken broth) tends to be in vegetables. Normally Dad makes green beans and red potatoes cooked in chicken broth and we have green beans w/bacon.

Cranberry jello salad made it's annual appearance but someting went wrong and it turned out bitter, at least that's what they told me.

In sum, Turkey Day=good times.

Yes, this! We had a lovely day with the family flea and assorted nerds (who at one point vanished into the nerd hole). There was tasty food, and pie.

or dessert, I made carrot cake and shortbread. some of them dipped in bittersweet chocolate and/or white chocolate.

You'd think I hadn't just eaten a whole bunch, earlier. But....I didn't stuff myself that much. Which is good--after last Thanskgiving, where I felt kinda sick all weekend because all weekend I KEPT EATING, I swore after that I'd never do that again.

But now it's late and I kinda want some more pie....only I took no leftovers because I'm leaving town Saturday...

I know that it's almost midnight, but I'm suddenly munchy for a little turkey.

I'm a natural at the crossbow. Which means the first time I shot it I was at least close. There's a bit of a kick, but not too bad. We're going out again tomorrow.

Aha! I see. All our vegetable dishes (& stuffing) Chez Jay are meat-free (as indeed is the gravy, some of the time) - thus my bemusement. But I'm with you now!

...Actually, for a few years my mum tried to make the bacon-wrapped sausages be meat-free, but I rebelled and clamoured for real bacon (because Not!bacon? Is a waste of protein. Although I like veggie sausages much more than regular ones.)

The turkey, however, is always turkey.

Home. Thanksgiving dinner was delicious and the company was lovely and the wine was stellar and I is so very sleepy after my way too early wakeup. Am typing from bed.

The only thing I missed was cornbread unstuffing baked in the oven. And I can make that if I really want some next week. Man, the food... It was really amazing.

Oh and there were amusing driving stories that can be shared tomorrow.

But the moment that I expect will have Buffista approval was when I called "home" to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving held at my asshole brother's house. My neicelet answered and I talked to her, nephlet, inquired about the neicephews, talked to my sister, an uncle and my parents. Nephlet was taking the phone around to everyone and asked if I had talked to everyone. Yep. Didn't even have to be polite to the brother or sil, I got my Thanksgiving Miracle!

I made stuffing, green beans almondine, gravy, a killer salad. Sister and BiL made pies, mashies, candied yams and cranberry sauce. Mom made the turkey and timed it wrong so we had to Rachel Ray it in some chicken stock to finish it off.
