I have a question! For west-coast-y/overnight/tomorrow discussion:

Who has an IUD and would like to talk about it? I have an appointment to get one installed (I know that's not the right verb, but it makes me laugh) tomorrow afternoon. Should I expect it to hurt like hell? I'm not going back to work afterwards, so I can curl up with a heating pad if need be. But -- what should I expect? In terms of having it put in, as well as after (both short-term and down the road -- like, side effect, particuarly weight gain)? It's the Mirena, for the record. (Also, I've never had a kid, just in case anyone thought I was hiding a shady past. I know that not having had a child can make it more painful when the IUD is installed.)

He's been taking various sinus meds. That with steam seems to help in the short term.

Fwiw, make sure he's taking the behind-the-counter meds with pseudoephedrine. That new stuff they're using in the sinus meds on the shelf does nothing for me.

Teppy, I have a Mirena and I love it. I won't lie--there was definitely pain when it was being placed. But it wasn't any worse than my regular monthly cramps and the usual stuff (Motrin, heat) took care of it. I was doing activities as usual later that day.

I've had a kid, and it hurt like a motherfucker for the first 30 minutes or so, but was down to mildly crampy by the time I got home, and even that pretty much vanished within 48 hours. I had some spotting for a bit, but since then, close to nothing.

F2F first impressions...jings, that's tricky, and troublesome, since I know I'll miss people out. First 'ffista I met* was Lee, iirc, and she was lovely and normal and deeply unscary and Buffistalike, and I was all talktalktalkjetlaggedtalktalktalkshyshyshytalktalktalkshyshyshy but she was lovely like a lovely thing.

I remember thinking Hec was exactly like Hec, except that I hadn't expected his voice. Now I can't imagine any other voice.

I remember being startled by how deadpan and hilarious in a totally-together, totally-confident way Teppy was. Almost intimidatingly so. 'Cause oftentimes she'd post things that I'd think, 'God, that's me!' but in person she seemed so very much more confident than me that it seemed silly to have even had that thought. If that makes sense? Because she's totally Mandy from Grimm and Evil.

ita and Jilli were ita and Jilli, incarnate. Which was very exciting, except I was a bit intimidated. Except that then I fell in love with the Jilli'n'Pete show, because - Jilli! And Pete!
