'Lies My Parents Told Me'

Spike's Bitches 33: Weeping, crawling, blaming everybody else

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Wow. That's a lot of cock to be sucked.

P-C! Are you still around? Ben (my nine-year-old) wants to know who your favorite Avatar character is.

He's very impressed that I have a grown-up friend who loves the show.

Hee! I...it's hard to pick a favorite character! I mean, Toph is my blind, underage girlfriend, but Sokka is the coolest guy ever, and Iroh pwns everything, and the DANGEROUS LADIES rock both individually and together, although I have a preference for the sociopathic Azula and the too-cute Ty Lee, though I'm coming around to the perpetually bored Mai. And let's not forget Appa and Momo. And AANG-Y.

I think if I had to pick one, I would probably just say Toph because it's pretty much UNDERSTOOD that everyone loves Sokka and Iroh because it is impossible not to. IMPOSSIBLE.

What about him?

What is even happening?

P-C! Are you still around? Ben (my nine-year-old) wants to know who your favorite Avatar character is.

My Ben's favorites are Prince Zuko and Uncle Iroh. Julia's favorite is Katara (sp?). Who's Ben's favorite, AmyLiz?

My Ben's favorites are Prince Zuko

Zuko has a great character arc, but he's so hilariously humorless, it's hard for him to be a "favorite." It's even hard for me to say I love him because he's ZUKO, for crying out loud.

Julia's favorite is Katara (sp?)

Correct.

Because books.

Ben's favorites are Sokka, Iroh, and Aang. I have no idea what he's talking about, but he seems thrilled there are so many other fans out there.

Now I want to watch.

Hee! When I rewatched the first season, I remembered how much I love Aang. He's just such a kid. In the beginning. He grows up some as the show progresses.

Now I want to watch.

You shoooooooould! It's so fucking good. Unbelievably good. I swear. I marvel about how fucking good it is, the same way I marveled about VM during the first season. (Caveat: Avatar only becomes truly marvelous in the second season, not that the first season isn't wonderful. I was watching part of the second season and catching up at the same time, so it was hard for me to judge the show properly, but I just inducted some newbies, and they agreed that the second season is significantly better.)

Embrace the idea that we are the leaders we've been looking for. Grace Lee Boggs

We're getting a ton of snow. City, state and federal workers have been told to stagger dismissals, so that not everyone is on the snowy, crappy road at once. What this means for me, a walker? I get to stay to the end of the day!! Actually, I don't really mind, and sometimes those who stay late get to take time off later, which would rock.

I think we really might hit 22 inches.

I will heartily second all of this.

(My favorite is Sokka, closely followed by Iroh, by-the-by)

I've read some of your posts about it. I just ... I don't really like anime. And Ben just told me airily I would never understand it if I hadn't watched from the beginning.

Like I need more TV in my life, you know? And now, dinner calls.

I will also say that I believe this show has brought me close to tears more often than any other show. And I don't think I tear up easily, although maybe I tear up more now that I'm older, or something. Life is pain. Life is beauty.

I've read some of your posts about it. I just ... I don't really like anime.

Don't let this stop you, honestly. If you don't like animation at all, then, well, I suppose that's a large hurdle, but I'm not a big anime person either. One of my newbies is, however, and she remarked that "it's like anime, but with a coherent storyline!" The anime title comes from the Chinese/Japanese-style setting/names/character design (although they borrow from a lot of Eastern traditions and philosophies) and the general focus on nature and spirituality. Also, there are wacky animals.

And Ben just told me airily I would never understand it if I hadn't watched from the beginning.

This is rather true because the show is very continuity-heavy. It's one big long story that's been extremely well planned out. My first episode was in the middle of season two, though, and while I didn't really understand all of what was going on, I was sufficiently entertained to keep watching.
