If anyone is interested in the no knead bread recipe, I found it here: [link]
My family tends to be "traditional" as in, very little variation. My mom tried an oyster stuffing one year and my dad revolted. Kind of boring, but it's really good. I usually bring dessert for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I rebel by bringing one new dessert each year. I always bring something everyone likes (carrot cake, chocolate cheesecake, apple pie, etc.) and then I do something new each year. Any thoughts? I'm bringing a carrot cake, but need my wild card. I'm considering a tarte tatin, but that's kind of close to apple pie. suggestions?
Thanksgiving is making me sad this year. I don't have Friday off, which means my not-from-here self doesn't get family. I also may not get Mr. Jane, as he would really like to go see his parents in Arkansas. Neither his parents nor mine are terribly far away (3 hours for mine and 6 for his) but the idea of driving-holiday-driving sounds exhausting for someone who'll be at work at 9 am Friday.
Also my birthday is Sunday, and my birthday twin turned out to be an ass, so this is the first time we'll not celebrate together in 6 or 7 years.
I'm starving. I blame you people.
Vortex, I'm a big fan of pumpkin things -- flan, cheesecake, souffle, etc. Things that are lighter than the trad pumpkin pie, but still delicious!
That all sounds awfully crappy, Daisy. Sorry.

only thing is that they tend to have the same spices/feel as carrot cake (which I usually make for my dad's birthday, but we went out this year, so he didn't get one, so I promised for thanksgiving)
I think you need to preorder this stuff, btw... by this Thursday, and the pickup is Wednesday.
Good to know. I have a menu of theirs; I may have to call an order in.
Oh, good point. The other things we always have are chocolate-dipped strawberries and eclairs.
I just got back from a Body Shop party at a friend's house. I had a paraffin treatment on my hands. They feel so good, I'm convinced I was meant to be a lady of leisure.
This is the first time in several years that I'm not cooking Thanksgiving dinner, and it's making me craaaaaaaaaazy. We're going to DH's aunt's house, and she's a fantastic cook, but I don't know how she does her turkey, what kind of stuffing she makes, what kinds of sides there are going to be...it's going to be all different and weird and so I'm bringing 2 sides and 2 nibbly things and maybe more if I have the time.
Oh, I'm going to miss all your Thanksgiving posts, Jess. You always have great ideas, and always try something interesting. I'm a huge traditionalist about Thanksgiving, so it's sort of a vicarious experiment.
We've had as many pies as people, some years.
And this is bad how?
I see Jesse answered, but the answer made no sense, because it presented a plethora of pies as problematic. Piffle.
Winding down the thread we are.
Not sure where the Yoda came from, though.
