I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

I've been keeping a full year on bills.

I already keep all my tax stuff, but I am thinking with as much electronic billing as there is, that maybe only 1-2 months of bills would be ok.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

I keep bills, filed when I get around to it. Since I pay taxes as a landlady, it's to my benefit to be able to account (and prove) that I've spent money on utilities. But even if I wasn't, I'd probably try to hang on to them, though now that I'm better about keeping track of stuff in Quicken, I have a good idea of how my historical expenses have run.

Now tagless for your comfort.

We shred our paid credit card bills every two or three months--once they're paid and we match reciepts. With all of them, we can order back statements online, if we need them.

Happy Birthday Jess!!!!

hivemind question - do people keep bills for credit cards, electricity, phone, etc. once paid? if so, for how long?

I generally keep them for a year. Now, I wish I kept them for longer, since I am very suspicious about the amount of propane the gas company says I am using for my stove. If I still had my bills from NY, I could easily compare. I know I'm paying more, which doesn't make sense at all given that it was the delivery charge that made the bill high in NY.

I keep them, and I'm getting annoyed with how much space they take up, but I don't have a shredder, and I don't want to just toss bills. We should get a shredder soon.

Speaking of, do people keep bank statements, and if so, for how long?

When I get around to shredding, I generally shred everything over a year old, except utility because it is good ammo when arguing that my a/c or heat is broke. Key point is...when I get around to shredding. Usually happens when the accordian files I keep them in threaten to explode.

I keep tax and health (vet) stuff forever.

So I went to do laundry and they changed the locks! On the 7th. Since I only do laundry every 2 weeks.... Oy. One of my neighbors lent me a key, so at least that's sorted out.

Vacuum monster to start roaring as soon as I do my lunch dishes. Then I need to go out and get cash. Maybe. It's gross out.

The nephew called me to settle a debate with his dad: Are there dinosaurs at the McLaren Center? (Answer:no, but I didn't know that.) He was very insistent that there are. Reminds me of someone...his dad!

Oh, more cute: J's been taking him into the lab on occasion. This weekend, they did "experiments" together, namely that phenal-something that changes from clear to yellow or purple depending on acidity or baseness. He also did some other change/bubble/stink type chemistry, and D LOVED it! He now has his own collection of test tubes (!!!!) and a petri dish that he insisted on gluing a plastic bug in. He's calling it his 'spurmint and it is going everywhere with him.
